Spring Series report

Record high temperature and record low snow could not stop the ROCs at Stoneham and Le Relais from running excellent races for the 120 boys and 110 girls competing in the Quebec Spring series.  Incredible amounts of fertilizer were used to maintain a firm and fair surface. This has been really common the last month of racing with the extremely warm weather. Amazingly, these conditions generally make for very fair racing, and a good opportunity for the young athletes to creep up on the tired National team guys and girls and score good FIS points.

Our boys really capitalized on the conditions and strong field.  Day 1, Julian, Chris and Ian all scored FIS point results in GS.  Julian 2nd J1, and Chris 4th J1.

Day 2, Hayden broke the 100 FIS point barrier in slalom at Le Relais.  Chris Steinke matched his day 1 result and in 2 days totally changed his GS point profile by 20 points. He was also 5th J1. Eric Stewart, in his first race coming back from injury skied his points, good to have you back Eric.

On day 3, Julian had his best FIS point result, breaking 50 FIS points with a 49 in slalom at Le Relais, good enough for 2nd J1!

Day 4 was a big day for the boys, Julian had 1st place overall J1 in Super Series season standings locked up, and Chris needed to ski well to maintain his 3rd place result.  Chris got the job done and reached the overall season podium, huge result for him.  Alumni Dustin Cook was also crowned Men's overall champion for the season.  Great weekend for the NCO boys!
